EZULWINI – It is raining money at the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS).

This follows the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA)’s decision to give the local football mother body US$750 000, which equates to about E7.5 million.

The news, likely to be met with exceeding joy by the local football fraternity, was relayed by the NFAS Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Frederick Mngomezulu shortly after the association’s Ordinary General Assembly held at the Sibane Hotel yesterday. Mngomezulu had, during his presentation of the football mother body’s unqualified audited financial statement, only mentioned how the money would be spent. Worth noting that the association’s delegates approved the financial report.

Interviewed after the meeting, Mngomezulu said the world’s governing body gave them the money after a successful 2014 World Cup spectacle, which was played in Brazil.

“All the member associations received the money and the Executive Committee has already decided on its usage. However, 15 per cent of the amount will be channelled towards women football and the rest will be used for the construction of the Sigwaca House Commercial Wing.
“This will, in turn, generate income for football, which is what the association dreams of having, an income generating project,” he said.

Asked if they thought this was a viable project and whether the Sigwaca House would be demolished, Mngomezulu said the project was viable.
“The Sigwaca House will not be demolished but what will happen is that the commercial wing will be constructed at what used to be the car wash. There is a lot of space and in fact experts have already been approached. They have given the project the green light to go ahead,” he said.
