Church-govt cooperation continues for families affected by 2013 Zamboanga siege

The Catholic Church assured families affected by a failed siege by Moro National Liberation Front founding chairman Nur Misuari and his followers in 2013 of continued cooperation between the Church and government in helping them recover.

Zamboanga Archdiocese vicar general Msgr. Cris Manongas said the Church and government are trying to help as many as 24,000 families get their lives back to normal.

“Good development naman. Sa complex, wala na sila roon. Marami ng mga bahay ang natapos na. Ang housing project ng government ay nai-transfer na. Merong pabahay ang karamihan nasa kanila na. We have temporary shelters somewhere, so it is getting better na," he said on Church-run Radyo Veritas.

For the Church's part, he said it is still working on permanent housing.

He said that while there is temporary housing, some families do not want to go there due to "difficulty" in electricity and water.

Also, he said some families are wary of temporary shelters because they are far from their workplaces. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
