MEERUT: His portrayal of Palak on the popular TV show 'Comedy Nights with Kapil' has won him many fans and much to the delight of everyone, comedian Kiku Sharda was in Meerut recently to tickle the funny bones of Meerutwallahs.
He was here to judge a dance competition for kids and staying true to his character, he showed his signature dance moves. We caught up with him to talk about his expectations from his first visit to the city, his love for food, and what he is taking back from here.

Didn't know Meerut's scissors were so popular
It was Kikus's first visit to Meerut and he didn't know what to expect when he came here. So, he tweeted to the fans asking them what he should buy from here. "To my surprise, almost everyone was of the opinion that I should buy scissors from here. Pata nahi tha ki Meerut ki kainchi India me itni popular hai. Later on, people also told me about other things I can buy from here like rewri-gazak and cricket equipment for my kids. But now I have made up my mind, aur kuch yahan se le kar jayun ya nahi, at least Meerut ki kainchi to le kar hi jaani hai waapis," he says
Other cities can take lessons from Meerut's hospitality
Kiku is all praise for the people of Meerut and the hospitality he received in the city. He says, "Like I said, it was my first visit to the city. All I knew was that this is the place from where the first war of independence began in 1857. Then my twitter followers educated me about the food I can get here. But what I liked the most on getting here is how the people here are so simple and grounded. Everyone here is asking for selfies and autographs but nobody is disruptive. I'm sure a lot of other cities can learn from Meerut in this regard."

Will remember Meerut's 'egg-halwa'
The comedian opened up about his love for food and what one thing will make him remember Meerut for a long time. He says, "I can never see myself as slim because I love food too much. Also, I think this round, chubby look suits me; it makes me look cute which is essential for a comedian. Due to my love for food, whenever I go to a new place, I make it a point to try some new dish. When I reached my hotel in Meerut, they gave me egg halwa. Now, I never thought these two ingredients will ever go together. But it was delicious. One thing from Meerut that I will never forget is this unusual dish named egg halwa." Loved the enthusiasm of Meerut's folks
Kiku was here to judge a dance show for kids and was bowled over by the energy and enthusiasm of the people here. "Not just the kids but even their parents are so charged up. I'm sure if the talent of this city continues with the same zeal and passion, they will be very successful. Apart from the performances as well, the enthusiasm of the audience was so contagious that even I couldn't help myself from getting up on the stage and shaking a leg."
