The time for admission would also be extended by a day, subcommittee chief Dhaka education board Chairman Abu Bakkar Siddik told bdnews24.com on Sunday morning.

Education Secretary Nazrul Islam Khan accepted the responsibility for the delay caused by a technical problem.

“I hope the list would be published today (Sunday),” he told reporters in the afternoon.

Siddik said a problem with the computer programme processing the list had been solved.

“There are some other problems, too. I hope it would be possible to publish the list today,” he said.

As many as 1.15 million students, who passed the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations in 2015, are waiting for the list to get admission to the college of their choice.

The Dhaka board chairman said 3.3 million students in all have applied for admission, as those who passed in 2013 and 2014 have also been given the chance to apply.

“Besides the large number, the students had the scope to state their preferred colleges. There was a problem with the programme in coordinating the huge data,” Siddik said.

The list announcement on the website -www.xiclassadmission.gov.bd had been first scheduled for 11:30pm on Thursday.

A second merit list is scheduled to be published on July 2.

But Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), entrusted with the preparation and publication of the list, had encountered computer programme glitches leading to the delay.

Many aspirants tried overnight several times but could not get the results on the website on Thursday.

A notice was posted on it on Friday morning, saying the list would be published at 11:30pm on that day. But that deadline, too, was missed.

Around 12:30am on Saturday, college inspector Ashfaqus Salehin told bdnews24.com the list would be on the website at 8am, but failed for the second time.

Salehin on Saturday noon said he hoped the list would be published on Sunday.

BUET computer science department teacher M Kaykobad began to work on a solution on Saturday morning.

Siddik said the time for admission would be extended by a day because of the delayed results.

“In that case, the students will get admission to colleges without any fee for delay from June 29 to July 1,” he said.

Classes will start on July 2, he said.

They will get into full stride after the Eid-ul-Fitr, Siddik added.

Students were given the chance to apply for admissions from June 6-21. Those who missed it will be allowed to apply from July 9-11.

Dhaka Board in a statement said students in the first merit list would get admission to colleges between June 27 and 30, without having to pay any late fee.

During the last few years, college admissions have been based on SSC results.
