High winds flip boat at Roosevelt Lake

High winds from a thunderstorm Saturday evening caused a boat to flip at Roosevelt Lake, according to fire officials.

One person was rescued after high winds caused the boat to turn over, according to an official with the Tonto Basin Fire District.

No other additional details were immediately available.

Maricopa and Gila counties have released severe thunderstorm warnings.

Gila County warned of damaging winds, destructive hail, deadly lightning and very heavy rain for the area near Tonto National Monument, Roosevelt Lake and Apache Lake.

Maricopa County warned residents in the areas of Horseshoe Lake and Bartlett Lake to remain indoors due to frequent lightning strikes, gusting winds and heavy rainfall until 7 p.m.

Pima County warned its residents as well, stating that winds in excess of 45 miles per hour are expected along with dust storms.

The National Weather Service also issued a warning about dust storms moving through the area created by the thunderstorms moving across the state. Most of the greater Phoenix area was put under a dust storm warning until 8 p.m.
