A curtain-raiser to the district-level launch of the Digital Locker system, which is being implemented nationwide, highlighted the facilities available to the public with the project’s implementation.

The programme, held as a precursor to the launch of the Digital Locker system and Ditigal India Week (DIW), was inaugurated here by Agriculture Minister K.P. Mohanan.

In his address, the Minister said the new system would help people easily access government services.

District panchayat president K.A. Sarala presided over the function. District Collector P. Bala Kiran explained the system. Additional District Magistrate O. Mohamed Aslam and District Informatics Officer Andrews Varghese were among those present. The system provides residents with a digital locker on the cloud and thus helps them minimise the use of physical documents.

This ensures authenticity of the e-documents and thereby eliminates usage of fake documents. It offers a secure access to government-issued documents through a web portal and mobile application for residents thus ensuring access to the documents anywhere and any time. The system also enables e-signing of documents and make them available electronically and online.

To popularise the system, the district administration will conduct various programmes, including quiz and elocution competition, IT exhibition, and seminar during DIW being inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 1.

A press release issued here on Saturday said the district administration planned webcasting at the Collectorate of the national-level inaugural function.

The district-level inauguration will be held at 5 p.m. that day.

The release said that those who wish to participate in the events should contact District Informatic Officer (Phone: 0497-2970061), Akshaya Mission ()497-2712987) or Revenue IT Cell co-ordinator (0497-2970029) or send email (nodalofficerkannur @gmail.com)
