Gulbarga University, whose accreditation with the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) ended in 2014, has initiated measures to renew the accreditation by completing the formalities stipulated by the council.
Newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Gulbarga University S.R. Niranjan, who initiated the measures towards accreditation, told The Hindu that delay in renewal of the NAAC accreditation has prevented the university from getting its due of grants.
The university should have received a sum of Rs. 10 crore from the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan as grants provided to accredited institutions. “My first act as the Vice-Chancellor of the university was to fulfil all the norms stipulated by the NAAC for renewing the accreditation.”
Prof. Niranjan said the university had also initiated measures to fulfil the norms stipulated by the NAAC and University Grants Commission, making it mandatory to hold self-appraisal of all the teaching staff to get the accreditation from the NAAC.
“Unfortunately till date no such self-appraisal has been made in Gulbarga University by any of the teaching staff. We will submit a proposal by July end to the NAAC for sending their team for appraisal,” he said.
