KUPWARA, June 27: BJP leader Ishfaq ur-Rehman Poswal has pitched for building hydro-power project near the Line of Control (LoC) in border Keran town in frontier Kupwara district.
Poswal said that a power project can be built on the gushing waters of Kishan-Ganga river on the pattern of other hydro-power projects. “Since partition, around 8000 people living near the LoC in Keran are groping in darkness due to absence of electricity facility. The water resource available there can be fully used to generate power facility to the ignored population and even to the other parts of frontier Kupwara district as well,” said Poswal.
He said that more significantly project could also generate job opportunities for the people. “There are no employment opportunities available to the people in border town and even highly educated youths are sitting idle. The power project could help provide jobs to many jobless youths in the town,” he added.
