Robin van Persie has revealed that the wishes of his wife and children will be the top priority as he weighs up his future.

The Manchester United striker, who caught a huge shark earlier this week, has just 12 months remaining on his contract and has been linked with an exit from Old Trafford.

With Euro 2016 taking place next summer, Van Persie has said that game time will play a major role on where he plays his football. With Louis van Gaal possibly unable to guarantee the 32-year-old a starting role, a new club could beckon.

However, that is not his top priority when it comes to making his decision.

"That tournament [Euro 2016] is going to play a big role in the choice I will make. But most important is the wish of my wife and children," the former Arsenal striker explained.

He added: "Whatever I do, my wife Bouchra and children Shaqueel and Dina Layla are the highest of my priorities. They have to be happy."

Van Persie is understood to believe that his career and settled family life in England are worth fighting for at the club.
