Watch Masaan trailer: Intensity, scandals and darkness

The trailer of India's pride at Cannes International Film Festival 2015 - Masaan - was released a few days back, and has won viewers over with its intensity. Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, this film made it to the Un Certain Regard category at Cannes this year, and picked up two awards at the festival.

The film deals with a few small town lives, and how they change when the tantalising big cities cast their spell on the people. Masaan stars Richa Chadda, who plays a small-town girl embroiled in a sexual scandal, while her father, played by Sanjai Mishra, has the task of being a witness to it all. Chadda is intense and commendable in the dark trailer, as is Mishra. Apart from the two, Masaan also features Shweta Tripathi and Vicky Kaushal in key roles. Shweta and Vicky play a couple in love, who are separated by caste issues.

Neeraj Ghaywan's directorial debut Masaan garnered much appreciation at Cannes this year, and he credited his mentor Anurag Kashyap as being the driving force behind his success. Apart from Kashyap, numerous B-Towners took to social networking sites to appreciate the film when it won the awards at the film extravaganza earlier this year. At the French Riviera, the Masaan team received a five-minute long standing ovation after the screening of the film.

While the film has had a dream run at Cannes, Masaan is yet to prove its mettle at the domestic box office. The Ghaywan film is all set to hit Indian screens on July 24. Here's the trailer of Masaan:
