A 19-year old Dalit girl was allegedly gang raped by a gang of four, which included an army man, at Vemuru village near Tenali in the early hours of Saturday.

The girl, a native of Kolluru, was working in a Photostat shop at Kolluru village and was with her friend, a 25-year old man at Vemuru railway station waiting to board a train to Repalle when a gang of four men on motorcycles confronted them.

The four men, who were in an inebriated condition, had with them a woman too.

The main accused, an army man, identified himself as a police man, showed his ID card and picked up the girl after threatening her accomplice. The two accused along with the victim, drove into the fields, where they allegedly raped the victim. The other two accused drove away with the woman, they had picked up earlier.

The girl’s friend dialled 100 and the call was routed to Sub Inspector of Police, who was on duty patrolling the area. The SI reached the spot within 20 minutes. He found the victim along with two men.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Tenali, M. Sowjanya said that cases have been registered against the accused under section 170 IPC (impersonation as police), 366 IPC (kidnap), sections 3, 5 of Prevention of Atrocities Act (SC & ST Act) and section 376 (D), Nirbhaya Act. The accused were produced before magistrate at Tenali on Saturday evening and sentenced to 14 days of judicial remand.

“We will intimate the Army Head Quarters about the charged framed against the serving army man. He was a native of Vemuru, is married and had come on a leave. The other three men are his friends,’’ said the DSP, Ms Sowjanya.
