Overflow of Shetrunji dam in first rain provides year-long relief to Bhavnagar

Overflow of Shetrunji dam in first spell of rain itself has been a good news for people of Bhavnagar district. So far as drinking water is concerned, the city of Bhavnagar in Saurashtra region of Gujarat relies on Shentrunji dam, Bor talav and Khodiar dam. All three have been in excellent condition today so far is water level is in question. Thousands of people rushed to witness overflow of Shetrunji dam and rich inflow in Bor and Khodiar talav. While overflow of Shetrunji has assured year-long drinking water supply to region, it has also created chaos in downstream areas for time being. With breakdown in Mujiyasar dam and huge inflow of water, two villages Thansa and Sarambhada attracted major damage. More than 80 houses were destroyed by flood in Thansa village while Sarambhada remained out of reach till Thursday. Rural roads have suffered heavy damage. Majority of lions that have been found dead due to flood and heavy rains were in Shetrunji river area. It is believed that as many as 100 Nil Gai succumbed to death in flooding river Shetrunji.
