SubHash B. Adi, Upalokayukta, said on Saturday that the probe into the corruption allegation against the Lokayukta office should be done by a good investigating agency outside the control of the Lokayukta.
Speaking to presspersons here, Mr. Adi said that when a charge was made against the Lokayukta's office, there should be no chance for the Lokayukta to participate in it.
"If the Lokayukta has control over the investigating agency, the probe will not be considered proper by the people. Lokayukta Y. Bhaskar Rao could have waited for two days and then decided on the investigating agency instead of handing it over to the Central Crime Branch (CCB)," he said.
He said that he would have objected to a probe by CCB, if the Lokayukta Y. Bhaskar Rao had informed him about it. "I cannot say whether the CCB has the powers to investigate because if there is a charge of corruption, it has to be investigated by the Lokayukta or the CBI," he said.
The CCB came under the jurisdiction of Lokayukta."So I do not know how far the investigation by the CCB is correct. The matter is already being probed by Superintendent of Police Sonia Narang. I had given orders for the probe (by Ms. Narang) in writing," he said.
"I had told Mr. Rao to wait and see what came out of the probe by Narang and then decide. I do not know why Mr. Rao hurriedly took a decision to have the allegation probed by CCB? I had not agreed to anything nor did I know about it," Mr. Adi said.
To a question as to whether the matter could be probed by the CBI, Mr. Adi said that the matter could be investigated through the CBI by the government. On Mr. Rao's reported statement that he would resign if his son was found involved, was pointed out, Mr. Adi said he did not know about it.
