Movie Review: Murari
Taking Murali a notch down

DIRECTOR: H Vasu

ACTORS: Sri Murali, Rashmi, Sharat Lohitashva, Prasanna

RUN TIME: 121 mins

CERTIFICATION: U/A

After the success of Ugramm, Sri Murali had become a star in his own right. But this six-year-old film that released yesterday spoils his party. Murari is not a very bad film but it has a very simple plot and the screenplay has an overused template. It ends up inducing an seen-that heard-that yawn. For those who do not know it is an old film, it will be a disappointment to see Murali in it. The consolation is that all the actors look younger, especially Sharat Lohitashva and it has nothing to do with makeup. You cannot miss current lead actor Neenasam Satish in a small side role.
Murali gets to play a gangster once again. He is a hired killer who goes against his own boss. He is a killer with a heart and does not want to go ahead with a murder when the victim's kids are with him. Murali is approached to abduct a girl by her lover. But our hero finds himself caught in a web woven by others. Extricating himself from the mess he falls in love. Can a gangster have a normal life and become an example? Of course anything is possible in a film.
The problem with the film is its non-exiting narrative. Even though it is just two hours long it is neither fast paced or thrilling enough. It moves along on a sedated trot at times even dragging in parts. The old-natured ideas in the film include our hero's fight with and rescuing the heroine from a python. This was probably last done on Kannada screen by the late 'Tiger' Prabhakar.
Murali for his part must be ruing the fact that this film was released. Ditto for Neemasam Satish. But there is no doubt that they have put in a decent performance. Sharat Lohitashva gets to do a good cop role for a change and proves he can pull it off with ease. V Manohar is a soothing presence through his music and lyrics. Overall Murari is not the worst film of Sri Murali but it has absolutely nothing special.
