Mauritius row: Protest outside DY Patil house in Mumbai
MUMBAI: Around 30 students from DY Patil Medical College in Mauritius and their parents staged a protest outside the residence of its founder, Patil, in Worli on Friday. The future of the students who enrolled in the MBBS course is uncertain after the Mauritian government de-recognized the college.
Later in the evening, the parents were arrested for unlawful assembly.
They were released on bail. The parents alleged that the police resorted to violent means while shoving them into a police van. One of the parents was reportedly injured.
"After our silent protest on June 8, we were assured that our children will be accommodated in the management's three colleges in India. But nothing has been done. We asked our kids to return from Mauritius and they too were present at the agitation today," said a parent.
