Vote: College football well represented in ESPY nominations

The nominations for the ESPYS (July 15, 8 p.m. ET, ABC) are out and college football has its share of potential award winners. Make sure to vote for your favorites.

After going from third-string quarterback to starter and national champion, Ohio State's Cardale Jones was a natural for Best Breakthrough Performance. Jones will square off against Odell Beckham, Mo'ne Davis and Jordan Spieth.

Jones' coach, Urban Meyer, is also up for an ESPY in the Best Coach/Manager category, along with UConn's Geno Auriemma, Duke's Mike Krzyzewski, the Patriots' Bill Belichick and the Warriors' Steve Kerr.

The player Jones bested in the College Football Playoff, Oregon's Marcus Mariota, is also up for an award. The Heisman Trophy winner is nominated for Best Male College Athlete, where he'll face Frank Kaminsky (Wisconsin basketball), Jack Eichel (Boston University hockey), Logan Stieber (Ohio State wrestling) and Dansby Swanson (Vanderbilt baseball).

The scene following Ole Miss' upset of Alabama won't soon be forgotten, and as such, it is a finalist for Best Upset, along with Georgia State beating Baylor in the NCAA Tournament and the Kansas City Royals winning the American League pennant.

And finally, two of the 16 nominations in the Best Play category are from college football. The No. 2 seed in the bracket-style category is the Hail Mary from the end of the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl and the No. 12 seed is the game-winning touchdown run by Ameer Abdullah against McNeese State.
