    Ahmedabad startups gear up for investment

    AHMEDABAD: IIM-A's Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE), The Indus Entrepreneurs(TiE)-Ahmedabad Chapter, Unitus Seed Fund (USF) and ESpark Viridian Accelerator arranged a day-long session for entrepreneurs in Ahmedabad.
    The session which began with panel discussion on "Entrepreneurship Trends: India & Ahmedabad," featured Dave Richards, Co-Founder & Managing Partner, Unitus Seed Fund, Vijay Raghavan, CEO, ESpark Viridian Accelerator, Priyanka Chopra, Director (Portfolio Operations) - CIIE-IIM Ahmedabad and Chetan Parikh, Co-Founder & CEO – ezDI LLC who discussed the hurdles faced by Gujarat-based start-ups and the opportunities they present.

    "We believe that Ahmedabad has the potential to be a thriving start-ups hub in India", said Dave Richards, Managing Partner, Unitus Seed Fund. "To support this, we are hiring an investment representative based in Ahmedabad to help nurture the start-up ecosystem and to help us find start-ups to invest in,” he added.

    "Gujarat tops the chart in all macro-economic indicators in the country. The stage is set for a thriving entrepreneurship eco-system in Gujarat. We are very excited to launch the first India centre for Entrepreneurial Spark-Powered by Viridian, one of the world's largest and Europe's most active Accelerator in Ahmedabad," said Vijay Raghavan, CEO, ESpark Viridian Accelerator. "We are keen to engage with entrepreneurs in Gujarat and create a launch pad for their businesses," he added.

    City-based investors started pouring in by late afternoon to hear 8 start-up pitches. The participating start-ups were AlmaMapper, ReMaterials, Sharehero, MeraPharmacy, Plexus MD, Gridle, OneHop and Trukky.

    "We were pleasantly surprised by the entrepreneurial passion in the city, and this excitement is shared by many investors who showed a lot of interest in many of these start-ups. This reinstates our faith in Gujarati entrepreneurial talent. We're surely on to a great start", said Khushalee Vakil, Senior Manager at CIIE, IIM-A.
