Will not tolerate indiscipline: Vengsarkar

Dilip Vengsarkar on Thursday insisted that indiscipline would not be tolerated and that the new managing committee would take strict action against serious wrongdoings, irrespective of whether it was a 14-year-old or a superstar or senior player in question. The preceding MCA administration had let off senior players Suryakumar Yadav and Shardul Thakur for their on-field quarrel during a Ranji trophy match last season.

The former India captain has been nominated chairman of the Cricket Improvements Committee (CIC) that will look into all cricket-related matters and make recommendations to the managing committee. The CIC members are Ajit Wadekar, Ajit Agarkar, Sanjay Manjrekar, Amol Muzumdar, Praveen Amre, Deepak Patil and Diana Edulji. “Wadekar is a former India captain and an experienced hand in cricketing matters. That’s the reason the managing committee has included him in the CIC. The managing committee will just ratify the CIC recommendations.”

With about three months left for the new season to start, Vengsarkar said the aim would be to make full use of the state-of-the-art indoor academy at the MCA Recreation centre at Bandra-Kurla Complex.

“The next three months are important. All our teams — from the under-14 to the Ranji Trophy team — should be ready for the challenge from October onwards,” said Vengsarkar at a press conference convened to announce the managing committee decisions.
