Political leaders in queue to meet family of dead farmer

H.D. Devegowda handed over an assistance of Rs. 1 lakh to the family while B.S. Yeddyurappa handed over Rs. 20,000.

A host of political leaders, including former Prime Minister H.D. Devegowda, met the family members of farmer R. Ningegowda, who allegedly committed suicide on Thursday, at their residence in Ganada Hosuru village in Pandavapura taluk on Friday.

Housing and District In-Charge Minister M.H. Ambareesh, Bharatiya Janata Party National Vice-President B.S. Yeddyurappa, JD(S) MLAs D.C. Thammanna, A.B. Rameshbabu Bandisiddegowda and N. Cheluvaraya Swamy, Congress MLA P.M. Narendra Swamy, Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) leader and Melkote MLA K.S. Puttannaiah and others visited Ganada Hosuru to convey their sympathies to the bereaved family members of the farmer.

Mr. Devegowda handed over an assistance of Rs. 1 lakh to the family. Mr. Yeddyurappa handed over Rs. 20,000.

Mr. Ambareesh said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had instructed him to visit the village to console the family members of the farmer.

Cremated

Meanwhile, Ningegowda was cremated at his village late on Thursday. A large number of people from Ganada Hosuru and neighbouring villages converged during the cremation.

Senior officials were present during the cremation.
