MLC Y.A. Narayanaswamy has demanded that exemplary disciplinary action should be taken against doctors and other staff of SNR District Hospital in connection with a woman giving birth to baby under a tree in the hospital premises due to negligence.

The legislator raised the demand in the district level KDP review meeting held at Bangarpet on Thursday. The meeting was presided over by the Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T. Khader, who is also the district in-charge.

“The issue should be taken up seriously,” Mr. Narayanaswamy said. He also alleged that rampant corruption is prevalent in Government hospitals. Doctors ask patients to bring medicines from medical stores leaving the poor patients in the lurch, he added.

Reacting to the demand, Mr. Khader said a committee headed by Deputy Commissioner has been constituted to look in to the woman’s case.

“Action will be initiated against those found guilty,” he assured. The doctors and staff refused to carry out delivery of Bhagyamma, a woman from Bangarpet taluk, on the pretext of some complications and asked her to go to private nursing home on June 11.

However, Bhagyamma gave birth to the baby under normal conditions under a tree in the hospital premises as soon she came out of the hospital.

The incident has triggered protests demanding action against the doctors and staff for their inhuman behaviour.
