Missing luggage

This passenger isn’t sure if he will ever get his luggage back. Ninad Chhaya, a frequent flier with Jet Airways, has been struggling to find his missing baggage since Sunday, when he landed in Mumbai from Dallas via Newark. Chhaya, who was returning from an official tour, was shocked when he found his baggage (with books and personal belongings) to be nowhere in Mumbai’s Terminal 2.

Chhaya started his journey from Dallas to Newark via American Airline’s AA 275, and subsequently boarded Jet Airway’s 9W 227 to Mumbai. “When my baggage was tagged in Dallas and I checked in a code-shared airline, I specifically asked the staff there and was told that I would directly get my baggage in Mumbai, and that the two airlines would take care of it.

Irrespective of this, in Newark, when I had a layover of four hours, I went up to the Jet counter and enquired about my baggage’s arrival. The Jet staff confirmed that the baggage had arrived in Newark and was being loaded by Jet.” Chhaya added, “When I went to complain about my baggage (in Mumbai after arrival), the staff said that they had already been notified that my baggage was lying at Newark.”

Clueless
The passenger stated that the airline had assured him on Sunday that his baggage would be returned in 48 hours; however, no updates were provided to him. “Wednesday onwards, when I continued to ask that they let me speak to their head, they didn’t cooperate and replied that no superiors were available for assistance. Later they said that they had no idea and were clueless about my baggage,” Chhaya said.

Chhaya, who has been travelling by Jet since years, said that though this was the first major issue he had faced with the carrier, he was upset with the airline’s passenger-handling services. He added that he had tried approaching Jet Airways through a friend as well, but to no avail. mid-day could not get through to the American Airlines office in New Delhi for a clarification from its side.

Airline speak
A Jet Airways spokesperson said, “A guest flying Dallas to Newark on board another airline, was booked to travel on board Jet Airways flight 9W 227 at Newark for India. Unfortunately, the guest’s baggage was not transferred/ tagged to the Jet Airways flight, which was discovered upon guest arrival in India (Mumbai).

Jet Airways has since been in touch with the guest to apprise him on the progress of baggage tracing, to the guest’s satisfaction. Jet Airways is closely coordinating with the other carrier for the transfer of the guest baggage.”
