June 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - WARANGAL:

The Congress launched its election campaign for the Warangal Lok Sabha seat by-election on Thursday. Rare camaraderie was witnessed among leaders, sending out a strong signal that they were serious about winning the seat and the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation elections as well.

The leaders held meetings at Warangal (East), Warangal (West), Parkal and Wardhannapet Assembly segments. Telangana in-charge R.C. Kuntia, TPCC chief N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and its working president Bhatti Vikramarka, TPCC former chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah, former Ministers Sarve Satyanarayana, P. Balram Naik, Baswaraju Saraiah, Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy and others took part in the meetings.

The leaders urged the party cadre to stand united and ensure victory for the party in the Lok Sabha and municipal elections.

“It is not difficult to win the elections if we stand united. If we are divided, we will fail. The party still has mass base and people are vexed with the ruling TRS party,” the leaders observed.

Mr. Kuntia said people were waiting to teach the TRS a lesson and if Congress cadres worked well, the party would win the confidence of people.

Mr. Sarve Satyanarayana, who represented Malkajgiri Lok Sabha in the past and is said to be aspiring for the Warangal MP seat, made it clear that he was not interested in moving out of Malkajgiri. He favoured former MP Siricilla Rajaiah and said Mr. Rajaiah was an able leader.

Mr. Kuntia accused the ruling party of trying to weaken the Opposition parties. Congress workers should reach out to the people and campaign on how the TRS party failed to deliver on its promises. “You should highlight how the government failed to keep its promises on jobs, pension and free education among others,” he said.

The Congress plans to hold a similar meeting on Friday at Bhupalpalli Assembly segment.
