A callous husband who refused to meet his wife after she delivered a girl child at a hospital and an empty pursue has forced a woman to sell her seven-day-old baby.
Two employees of a private hospital in Suryapet, where she delivered the child, helped her sell the baby to a childless couple in Khammam town.
The money given by the childless couple helped the mother settle her hospital bill of Rs. 20,000. In addition, she was given Rs. 17,000 by the two employees.
However, Mamidi Janaki, mother of the baby, had a change of mind after three days.
She returned to the hospital demanding her child back. When the two employees informed her that the child has already been taken away by a childless couple, she complained to K. Mothy, Project Director, Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS). Ms. Mothy immediately alerted T. Sridevi, Child Development Project Officer, Suryapet.
Ms. Sridevi came to the hospital on Wednesday morning to enquire about the incident but the hospital management denied her permission to enter the premises. On a complaint by Ms. Sridevi, the Suryatpet police registered a case and also helped in restoring the baby to the mother.
The police identified the hospital staff as Prasad and Venkanna who took the help of middleman Appa Rao to facilitate Ms. Janaki sell the infant to couple Sheik Rubina and Munwar, residents of Tummalagadda Bazaar in Khammam.
Ms. Janaki told the police that she was forced to sell the girl in helpless state since the management refused to discharge her without paying the bills.
She informed the police that her husband Janardhan did not even visit her after knowing that it’s a baby girl . The couple have two girl children aged four and two years.
