Woman’s death sparks protest

June 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - NAMAKKAL:

Stating that wrong treatment by doctors of a private hospital led to the death of a 45-year-old woman, her relatives staged a protest outside the hospital with the body and blocked the Namakkal – Tiruchi Main Road on Thursday.

Santhi, wife of Ramasamy, of Ernapuram was a noon-meal organiser.

She developed stomach pain and was admitted to the hospital here on Monday. She was diagnosed with tumour in uterus and doctors decided to perform surgery on Tuesday to remove it.

However, surgery was done on Wednesday. She developed breathlessness and doctors asked her relatives to shift her to a private hospital in Salem.

She was admitted to the hospital at 7 a.m. But, doctors said that she was already dead. Angry relatives staged a protest outside the private hospital in Namakkal. They said that the hospital administration was trying to hide her death that happened due to wrong treatment.

Revenue Divisional Officer M. Kannan and Inspector Baskaran pacified the protestors. Traffic resumed after an hour on the busy highway.
