Grandfather, Uncle Jailed For Rape

Two men, a 65-year-old and a 54-year-old, have been jailed in Labasa for separate rape cases.
In the first case, the 65-year-old grandfather was sentenced to 13 years in jail for raping his granddaughter on four separate occasions.
The sentence includes a non-parole term of 11 years.
The grandfather allegedly raped the victim between February 1 to 29 in 2008, April 1 to 30 in 2010, December 1 to 31 in 2013 and April 1 to 30 in 2014 at Wainikoro in Macuata.
The accused appeared before Justice Salesi Temo and was found guilty.
Justice Temo reminded the accused that he should not complain that his liberty was taken away because he breached his granddaughter’s trust.
The victim had been raised by her grandparents since she was a nine-month-old baby.
In the second case, the 54-year-old man was jailed for 13 years with a non-parole term of 10 years.
This was for raping is 14-year-old niece at Seaqaqa, Macuata, in June last year.
