The Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) teachers’ union initiated an indefinite chain hunger strike opposite the office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) here today to protest against non-acceptance of their demands.

On the first day, Manohar Singh, Arpit Setia and Surinder Kumar sat on the hunger strike.

A large number of teachers also staged a protest before the office of the District Education Officer (DEO) and the DC and took out a protest march from the DEO office to the DC office. The demonstration was led by vice-president of the state unit Hardip Todarpur, Fazilka unit president Parmod Bishnoi, Mohinder Korianwali and Surinder Billapatti. The teachers demanded action against the Principal of Government Middle School, Mandi Ladhuka, Pankaj Angi, for allegedly abusing a teacher, Manohar Singh. They also sought renewal of contract of another teacher Arpit Setia. Besides, the teachers warned the authorities against discrimination with teachers working on a contract basis. They also demanded release of salary on time and maintaining transparency in the department.

The teachers resolved that the chain hunger strike would be continued until they did not get justice.

Principal Pankaj Angi refuted the allegations of abusing the teacher. He alleged that the teacher did not perform his duty with dedication and in a bid to cover up his misdeeds, was trying to befool others.
