City records highest water stock since 2011

According to the data, the current stock will last the city for another 83 days, that is, till the beginning of September.

Heavy rains in the past week has resulted in highest water stock in lakes supplying water to the city in the month of June in five years.

According to the data released by the BMC, the total water stock in all the seven lakes supplying water to the city has risen to 3.14 lakh million litre till June 25, which is 1.7 lakh more than what was recorded in 2014 on the same date. The seven lakes supplying water to the city include Modak Sagar, Tansa, Vehar, Tulsi, Upper Vaitarna, Bhatsa and Middle Vaitarna.

According to the data, the current stock will last the city for another 83 days, that is, till the beginning of September. The civic body supplies 3.750 million litre of water everyday to the city. The heavy rains have cast aside BMC’s apprehensions of imposing water cut, a senior civic official said.

The total useful content in Bhatsa, which accounts for 59 per cent of the water supply in the city, stands at 84,854 million litre, which is 29,099 million litre more than what was recorded last year at the same time.

During monsoons, Bhatsa lake is expected to reach its maximum capacity of 142 metre to supply water to the city for the next year. It has already reached 111.27 metre till June 25.
