Gurukul Kangri varsity agrees to give control to Centre

The Board of Management of Gurukul Kangri University has agreed to the proposal of the University Grants Commission (UGC) to hand over management power to the Central Government from the current private bodies.

The Board of Management of Gurukul Kangri University has agreed to the proposal of the University Grants Commission (UGC) to hand over management power to the Central Government from the current private bodies.

A written proposal has been sent by Gurukul Kangri University in this regard to the Union Human Resources Department.

As per Vice Chancellor of the University Professor Surendra Kumar, members of the Board of Management have accepted to the clauses.

Under the clauses, the appointment of the Vice Chancellor, pro-Vice Chancellor and other appointments of the Gurukul Kangri University will be done through the UGC by the Central Government. Hundred per cent financial assistance to the Gurukul Kangri University would continue in the form of a deemed University.

Currently, Gurukul Kangri University is managed by three separate bodies — Arya Representative Sabha, Delhi, Haryana and Punjab, but their mutual differences and say has been affecting the management and working of the University.

During the independent struggle, Gurukul Kangri University produced many a freedom fighters and was frequently visited by Mahatma Gandhi and Dr Rajendra Prasad, who had termed it as a pioneering institution of the country for nurturing vedic values, ancient mode of guru-shishya education and patriotism.
