Snatchers abandon bike near crime scene, get caught
MUMBAI: Two snatchers, one of whom had taken to crime to fund his sister's wedding, were arrested by the Kandivali police recently. With the arrests, the police have solved three cases at Kandivali.
The accused, Gafar Subhan Akhtar, 22, and Zahid Shaikh alias Jugnu, 23, are both Mira Road residents. Jugnu works as a garage employee and wanted money to get his sister married.

On May 15, the duo targetted a BEST bus driver, Bhairav Lagade, 26, when he was walking down. Akhtar and Jugnu were on a bike. They snatched Lagade's gold chain which snapped into two. Lagade tried to fight back but in vain. The duo escaped with half the chain as the other portion fell on the road. The incident took place near Poisar depot around 12.10 am.
"The bike broke down after sometime. Akhtar and Jugnu then abandoned it and fled on foot. We found the bike and it matched the description provided by Lagade," said investigating officer Atul Dahiphale.
Akhtar was arrested on June 9 while Jugnu was nabbed on June 18. Both are currently lodged in judicial custody.
