Case filed against Mohalla Assi in CJM court

Lawyer Kamlesh Tripathi has moved the court of special chief judicial magistrate (Vth) against Sunny Deol-starrer Mohalla Assi. The court has fixed July 4 as the date of hearing.

VARANASI: Lawyer Kamlesh Tripathi has moved the court of special chief judicial magistrate (Vth) against Sunny Deol-starrer Mohalla Assi. The court has fixed July 4 as the date of hearing.
According to Tripathi, the complaint was filed against filmmaker, director, and actors under sections 295A, 298, 292A and 292C of the IPC for hurting religious sentiments and spreading obscenity in the society.

‘Mohalla Assi’, based on Hindi novel ‘Kashi ka Assi’ authored by Kashi Nath Singh, had invited ire of people and saints here for alleged use of abusive language and for hurting religious sentiments of people.
Recently, a section of saints and social activists had lodged a complaint with the police against the filmmaker, director and actors for alleged attack on city’s culture by portraying it in bad light. Swami Narendrananad Saraswati of Shri Kashi Sumeru Peeth and others associated with Sarvajan Jagriti Sansthan had lodged a complaint against film’s producer Vinay Tiwari, director Chandra Prakash Dwivedi and actors Sunny Deol, Shakshi Tanwar, Ravi Kishan and others with Bhelupur police station. BJP MLA Ravindra Jaiswal and party’s state spokesperson Ashok Pandey had also lodged a similar complaint. However, the police were yet to register the FIR saying that the matter was being examined.
Besides, after the leak of trailer on social media, Shiv Sena activists also staged a demonstration in front of of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s local office at Ravindrapuri colony in protest against the use of abusive language by film characters. The trailer went viral on social media inviting anger of people due to its abusive language.
