DK Ravi's Kolar DC stint made many uncomfortable, says CBI

Bengaluru, June 25: The Central Bureau of Investigation has learnt that some politicians did not like the fact that D K Ravi was working as a Deputy Commissioner in Kolar district of Karnataka.

While questioning several persons it came to light that Ravi's stint as a Deputy Commissioner in Kolar where he took on the land mafia had made everyone comfortable.

DK Ravi probe: CBI says no criminal conspiracy

To seek out more details on this, the CBI questioned former Union Minister K H Muniyappa and independent Kolar MLA, Varthur Prakash. The CBI however says that they were just gathering details and the questioning did not mean that they had anything to do with the incident.

Personal reasons exaggerated

The CBI has found that the personal reasons that was cited by the CID were exaggerated. The CID, Karnataka which had initially probed the matter following the death of D K Ravi had suggested that it could have been personal reasons that led to the incident.

CBI officials however pointed out that on verifying the messages that Ravi had sent to his female colleague, they had not found anything strange or unusual. We have looked into this angle in depth but have found nothing unusual, the CBI also added.

Rapport with politicians

The CBI during the course of its investigation has gone into several aspects. Many persons it questioned suggested that during his stint as a DC in Kolar he had a run in with several powerful persons.

We questioned certain politicians to find out if Ravi was under pressure when he worked at Kolar. Several persons in Kolar whom we questioned suggested that he did not have an easy time working there, the CBI officer also informed.

While this being the case, we have also found that there was no foul play in his death prima facie, the officer further informed.

Theories being eliminated

The CBI when it took over the probe decided to probe into each and every theory that could have been attached to his death. While the AIIMS panel at Delhi on scrutiny of the postmortem and autopsy report confirmed that it was a case of suicide, the CBI continues to look into the possible motives.

So far it has not found any criminal conspiracy behind the death of the officer. It has eliminated abetment to suicide, murder and a mafia connection. So far none of these links have surfaced, but we are continuing with the investigation to find out the exact motive that could have led the officer to commit suicide, the officer also informed.

Final report in three weeks

The CBI will now seek another opinion from the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory to confirm whether it was a case of suicide or not. The postmortem and autopsy report have been looked into by the Karnataka and Hyderabad FSL and also the AIIMS panel.

All three have confirmed it to be a case of suicide.

The CBI before filing its final report would seek the opinion of the CFSL too and is expected to file the report in three weeks. We still have some more persons to question which would include colleagues and also those close to politicians Ravi dealt with.

We have looked closely at a land deal which Ravi was alleged to be involved with and prima facie, it does not appear it had anything to do with his death, the CBI official says.
