GHAZIABAD:
Sultanpur MP and BJP general secretary
Varun Gandhi addressed a gathering near Gukhna Mod on NH-58 on Wednesday. Gandhi said he was on a statewide tour to visit family members of the several farmers who have committed suicide. He was on his way to Muzaffarnagar,
Meerut and
Bijnore.
"I plan to visit family members of all those farmers who committed suicide and assure them that we are with them in these trying times," Gandhi said addressing party workers.
As per UP government figures, around 35 farmers committed suicide in the state following crop loss due to unseasonal rain and hailstorm. Criticizing the
Akhilesh Yadav government, Gandhi said the state does not have a proper rehabilitation policy for families of farmers who committed suicide except for the relief package of Rs 300 crore.
Gandhi will be visiting Lakhimpur Kheri and Sitapur this month, and
Agra and
Fatehpur Sikri in July.
