Superintendent of Police (Thiruvananthapuram Rural) K. Shefeen Ahamed has said that equal attention will be given to all polling booths in the Aruvikkara by-election as there are enough personnel on duty.
A total of 2,200 police personnel, including nine Deputy Superintendents of Police (Dy.SPs) and 13 Circle Inspectors (CIs), will be on duty at the 154 booths, he said at a press conference at the collectorate here on Wednesday.
Three companies of Border Security Force (BSF), consisting of 250 personnel, will be on duty. In addition, Central armed police force will also be deployed. Webcasting facility has been set up at 110 polling booths and the rest of the 44 booths will have micro-observers.
The police and the district administration have asked all those who are not residents of the Aruvikkara constituency to leave the place after the campaigning ends at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
Sale of liquor has been prohibited in the Aruvikkara constituency as well as the Nedumangad and Kattakada taluks from 5 p.m. on Thursday to 5 p.m. on Saturday, when the polling ends. On June 30, the counting day, sale of liquor has been prohibited within a 2 km radius of the Swathi Thirunal Music College, Thycaud.
