District Health Officer Amaresh Kolur on Wednesday said that the first case of dengue in the district was reported in Balichakra village in Yadgir taluk recently.

He told The Hindu that Jayamma (20) was admitted to the district general hospital at Yadgir last week for fever.

Later, she was shifted to the district general hospital at Kalaburgi, where medical examinations conducted on June 16 confirmed that she was suffering from dengue. “She is recovering now,” he said.

Action had been taken to create awareness among the village residents about the taking preventive measure, Mr. Kolur added.
