The Soore University, Tehran, Iran will show, June 28, a play called “Slow Sound of Snow” based on Tuncer Cücenoğlu’s „The Avalanche” as part of this year’s ITSelF International Theatre Schools Festival competition, held in Warsaw until July 1.

Life proceeds calmly and joyfully in a mountain village, except in the winter, when everything sinks into a restless dream, into fear of the sudden death that might descend from the mountains at any moment in the form of an avalanche. The furious element can be unleashed by even a single loud noise, to say nothing of a baby’s first cry. That’s why every woman who starts to give birth before spring arrives must be buried alive.

Led by the young director Jaber Ramezani, the students have prepared an extraordinary adaptation of Tuncer Cücenoğlu’s Avalanche in which nearly every word has been cut. Slow Sound of Snow is a hypnotic show performed on a claustrophobic stage in suspenseful silence.

The Soore University in Tehran was founded in 1993 by the Islamic Arts Organization in Iran. It accepts students based on nationwide exams. It offers studies at the bachelor’s and master’s level for a variety of artistic fields: theater, music, architecture, sculpture, graphic design, fine art and dramatic literature. In the international arena it is recognized as one of the best art schools in Iran.

Students of the Soore University in Tehran were featured at MFST ITSelF in 2013 with their production of Swim Team, written and directed by Jaber Ramezani.
