Civic chief appoints full-time anti-encroachment officer

Civic chief appoints full-time anti-encroachment officer
Nagpur: It seems municipal commissioner Shravan Hardikar has decided to deal with the increasing menace of encroachments at public places, especially on roads and footpaths, with an iron hand. He has created a post of full-time assistant municipal commissioner exclusively to monitor and direct drive against encroachments.
A senior NMC’s general administration department official confirmed the development and said so far the enforcement department always remained neglected as the additional charge was given to executive engineer (quality control department) Dilip Jamgade.

The department will now be led by Ashok Patil, who was earlier in-charge of Satranjipura zone.
TOI had several times reported how widened IRDP roads had become narrower following encroachments by vendors. Taking advantage of the authorities’ apathy, even shopkeepers had extended their establishments on footpaths and roads.
Meanwhile, the civic chief transferred three other assistant municipal commissioners. Following allegation of irregularities in housing scheme for BPL people against Ashi Nagar zone’s assistant municipal commissioner Harish Raut, the civic chief transferred him to Satranjipura zone.
Sources, however, criticized the civic chief’s move as Mayor Pravin Datke had on June 20 directed him to send Raut on leave over the same allegations.

The civic chief also reshuffled the assistant municipal commissioners of Hanuman Nagar and Gandhibagh zones, respectively. Hanuman Nagar zone’s assistant municipal commissioner Vijay Humne has been shifted to Ashi Nagar zone while Gandhibagh’s Raju Bhivgade to Hanuman Nagar.
Assistant municipal commissioner (LBT) Milind Meshram has been given additional charge of Gandhibagh zone.
