Western Railway seeks state’s help to resolve protests against new railway line

The protest, which took place a month ago, was against the construction of the line cutting the path leading to a crematorium.

After failing to commission the fifth railway line between Bandra and Santacruz due to a crematorium on the way, the Western Railway (WR) authorities are now seeking help from the state government to resolve a protest by local residents and trustees of the crematorium against it.

The protest, which took place a month ago, was against the construction of the line cutting the path leading to a crematorium. The crematorium trustees alleged that railway authorities did not intimate them about it.

A senior officer from WR said, “We have written to the assistant chief secretary (transport) along with the chief secretary to look into it. Now, the situation is beyond what the railway authorities can handle,” he said. “I have received the letter from the WR and it has been forwarded to the civic body,” said Gautam Chatterjee, assistant chief secretary (transport).
