The state executive of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) will hold its meetings at Hamirpur for the first time so that party workers get an opportunity to put across their viewpoint before the top brass of the party.

To begin with, the first meeting of the HPCC state executive will be held at Hamirpur, the home district of the state Congress president Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu. Though the date has so far not been fixed, Sukhu has taken the decision to hold such meetings on a rotation basis at various district headquarters all over the state in the coming days. “Holding the state executive meetings at different district headquarters on regular intervals will enable the party workers of that area to interact with senior party leadership and raise their problem and also give suggestions for strengthening the party,” Sukhu said.

He said there would not be any fixed date for holding such meetings, but the venue will be different. Sukhu, who has taken several initiatives to strengthen the party at the grass-root level, also hinted at including some young faces having organisational experience in the state body.

“We also intend to include some young people having organisational experience of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) and the Youth Congress into the state body to mobilise cadres and strengthen the party at the grass-root level,” he said. He hinted that some changes could be made in the state body in the near future depending on the performance of the state office-bearers and having dedicated party workers who will work will zeal to strengthen the party.

It was about a month back that Sukhu had made changes in the organisational responsibilities that had been entrusted to the vice presidents, general secretaries and secretaries in the state body, depending on their performance.

“Those who are holding senior positions in the government or have remained with the party for longer time are unable to devote much time to the party matters. Youth who have more time and are keen to strengthen the party will be entrusted responsibility,” said a senior party leader.

In a bid to improve coordination between the party and the government, Sukhu got the Chief Minister and ministers to sit in the Congress Office here to listen to the grievances of the party workers and the public. The practice was started by Virbhadra Singh himself and his ministers have been devoting a day every month to take out time for party workers and the public.
