Poonch, June 24

Poonch was cut off from the rest of the state as the approach road to the Sher-e-Kashmir Bridge got washed away this morning due to heavy rain in the area.

As per reports, the Roads & Bridges Department and the Army had created a temporary approach road to the bridge last October after it was damaged by incessant rain and flash floods.

In Surankote, several residential houses and shops were flooded as local rivulets swelled, creating panic among the residents.

The power supply to the border area has also been snapped. Electric poles got uprooted in Draba, affecting the power supply to the area.

With the memory of last year’s devastating floods still fresh in peoples’ mind, district administration has alerted its disaster management cell and close coordination is being maintained with the Army to deal with the problem.
