Literary honours for Nayeem Kashmiri, Sukhdev Madpur

NEW DELHI: The Sahitya Akademi today announced awards to writers and poets, including one each in Punjabi, Kashmiri, Dogri and Urdu, for their contribution to children literature for 2015.

The Sahitya Akademi today announced awards to writers and poets, including one each in Punjabi, Kashmiri, Dogri and Urdu, for their contribution to children literature for 2015. It also decided to jointly honour Charu Chandra Pande and Mathuradatt Mathpal for Bhasha Samman for 2014.

The award for Bal Sahitya among others went short story writer Nayeem Kashmiri (Kashmiri language). In poetry section, Tarachand Kalandri (Dogri), Bano Sartaj (Urdu), Sherjang Garg (Hindi), Sukhdev Madpur (Punjab), and Jetho Lalwani (Sindh) are among 11 writers who have been selected for the award, a release said.

Overall, five novels, four collection of stories, three collections of poetry and one one-act play and 11 writers were selected for the Bal Sahitya award, which carries a casket with an engraved copper plaque with a purse of Rs 50,000. The awards will be present in Mumbai on November 14. The awards are for books published during the past five years, 2009-2014.

The Bhasha Samman for 2014 was given to Pande and Mathpal for their “valuable contributions to the enrichment of Kumauni language.
