As the campaign to a crucial by-election to an assembly segment enters final hours, a TV channel on Wednesday aired a conversation of solar scam accused Saritha S Nair, which said a section of ministers in Kerala was acting as a lobby to trap, use and exchange women among themselves.

After she was arrested in the solar energy scam in 2013, Nair had told the media that she was sexually abused by several Congress leaders, state ministers and a union minister in the then UPA government at the Centre. Last week, after she was convicted in one of the solar fraud cases, Nair had threatened to reveal the names of leaders who had cheated her.

Nair reportedly told a reporter that a lobby operates among the ministers to trap women. After a minister uses a woman, he would intimate another about the new arrival. The woman’s contact number would be passed on to the friend with an advice to approach her. It is like a chain, says Nair in the conversation.

She said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy adopted a stand to protect the ministers, who were involved in the racket. However, she had not named any minister in the conversation aired by the channel. She said her complaint against Congress legislator A P Abdullakutty was a test dose after he tried to challenge her. Nair had complained to the police Abdullakutty had raped her after inviting her to talk about launching solar project in his constituency.

She said a prominent minister had called her 65 times a night. Many ministers had exploited her promising to give business for her solar energy venture. “The minister called me 65 times in one night. They would keep dialing until I attend the call. The calls would go up to 2 am. In the late night, the minister would be making calls in an inebriated condition,’’ says Nair in her conversation.

Festive offer

Reacting to Nair’s revelations, Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan said the Chief Minister has stooped to the level of a security guard of a brothel.
