Former Likud MK Livnat denies she's candidate for ambassadorship to UK

Former education minister Limor Livnat told The Jerusalem Post Wednesday that she is not a candidate to become Israel's next envoy to London.

Israel's current ambassador, Daniel Taub, will be leaving his post after four years and returning to Israel this summer, the embassy announced last week.

Livnat called reports she was being considered as a replacement for Taub "nonsense."

One of the politicians closest to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Livnat retired from politics after a 23-year career when her term as Culture and Sport Minister ended on May 14.

Livnat was named last week as chairperson of the Foundation for the Benefit of Holocaust Victims in Israel.

There was speculation in the Knesset Wednesday that a current Likud minister or MK could be sent to London to allow others to be promoted. More than one Likud minister has expressed interest in the post, as well as becoming ambassador to the United Nations.
