DK Ravi probe: CBI says no criminal conspiracy

Bengaluru, June 24: The Central Bureau of Investigation probing the death of D K Ravi, IAS officer has almost concluded that there was no criminal conspiracy involved. The analysis of the phone records of the officer does not suggest that there was any criminal conspiracy, an officer with the agency informed.

The CBI which took over the probe from the Karnataka's CID in May 2015 has been analyzing forensic reports, call records apart from questioning several persons associated with Ravi.

There is nothing to suggest that the suicide was abetted nor was there a criminal conspiracy, an officer associated with the probed informed.

No criminal conspiracy

The Karnataka government had come under immense pressure to hand over the case to the CBI after a section of the people alleged that D K Ravi could not have committed suicide.

Known to be an honest officer who had taken on the sand mafia in Kolar during his stint as Deputy Commissioner, Ravi was found hanging in his apartment. He was posted in the Commercial Taxes Department at that time.

The CBI officer says that they have examined all possible material available with them and nothing as of now suggests that there was a criminal conspiracy.

What we have found is that none abetted the suicide of the officer. We have questioned several persons including colleagues, relatives, his driver, personal assistant among others but have found nothing to suggest that someone had abetted the suicide of the officer, the officer said.

Report confirms suicide

Further a report from the AIIMS confirmed that Ravi had confirmed suicide. The CBI had taken the post mortem and autopsy report conducted in Karantaka for a second opinion to AIIMS. A panel of doctors who went into the report stated that it was a case of suicide.

The panel also found no discrepancies in the report conducted in Karnataka. In fact the forensic reports which were initially conducted in Bengaluru and Hyderabad had both suggested that it was a case of suicide.

The AIIMS panel after going through these reports suggested that there was nothing to suggest that the reports of both the panels was wrong.

The reports by the Bengaluru and Hyderabad forensics laboratory had suggested that Ravi's death was caused by hanging. It also stated that the death was caused due to suffocation by hanging. The AIIMS panel agreed with both these reports thus concluding it was a case of suicide.

Final report in July

The CBI will submit its final report on the case in the month of July. It would now seek another opinion before the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory before coming to any conclusion.

The same reports would now be placed before the CFSL for a final opinion. Once this opinion is given, then the CBI would go ahead and file its final report in July. The CBI would also question a few more persons before filing its final report.

Motive to be made clear

The CBI in its final report would also make clear what the motive behind the alleged suicide was. For now there is nothing to suggest any foul play. The CBI is examining various aspects right from personal reasons to an alleged land deal and trying to ascertain what the cause of the suicide was.

We are still probing into this angle and would include in our final report what exactly the motive behind the alleged suicide was. We have not come to any conclusion on this aspect the CBI officer also informed.
