Former Chief Ministers H.D. Kumaraswamy and B.S. Yeddyurappa had a ‘cordial’ meeting in Hubballi on Tuesday in the presence of leaders from the JD(S) and the BJP.

Speculations were rife in Hubballi on Tuesday after former allies-turned-foes, H.D. Kumaraswamy and B.S. Yeddyurappa, met here. What was described as a “cordial” meeting between the two former Karnataka Chief Ministers took place at Mr. Yeddyurappa’s room in the circuit house in the presence of various leaders.

Speaking about it in the press conference later, Mr. Kumaraswamy said political differences apart, he still shared a rapport with Mr. Yeddyurappa against whom the Lokayukta has registered fresh cases pertaining to land denotification. Mr. Kumaraswamy said there was “no politics” involved in it. He, however, said that as Opposition parties, both the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Janata Dal (Secular) were fighting against the Congress government and issue-based support was accorded on some occasions.

“But this apart, there is no political tie-up. We will fight the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike elections on our own,” he said.

According to sources, it was Mr. Yeddyurappa who initiated the meeting. Sources added that “changed political equations” and performances of the governments were discussed. Mr. Yeddyurappa reportedly thanked Mr Kumaraswamy for his statement backing him on the fresh denotification cases.
