HUBBALLI: Manigandan C Vijayan, 28, and Nagamani alias Nagavalli, 30, who killed their 8-year-old son Saikumar, were convicted by the first district and sessions court here on Tuesday. Judge Gopalkrishna Kolli handed down a life term for Vijayan and sent Nagavalli to four years in prison.
Arguing over the quantum of punishment, advocate SM Patil urged the court to minimize it as the duo has a 6-year-old son.
However, public prosecutor DA Bhandagekar pushed for a death sentence for Manigandan and rigorous imprisonment for Nagavalli. However Nagavalli’s term will in end October as she has already spent 4 years in jail.
Chennai-based Nagavalli married Hari in Chennai in 2004 and gave birth to Saikumar. Later, she had an affair with Manigandan and stayed in Hubballi and had another son.
