Filmy fashion

Bollywood has always been a strong influence on Indian audiences, particularly when it comes to fashion. What an actor wears on screen today, more often than not, becomes a trend in the weeks to come, including some of the wackiest looks! And some films have become immortal for their clothes, accessories and styling. Take a look at the list of some of those films that have impacted Indian fashion…

Cocktail:

Deepika Padukone brings the hotness and glamour through her character, Veronica. The smokey eyes, crop tops, Aztec and animal prints, varied hair braids, palazzo pants and sequined dresses gave the bold look that Deepika’s character demanded. Stylist Anaita Shroff Adajania not only did justice to each of the characters but also gave Veronica’s portrayal a fashionable dimension.

Aisha:

It is through this film that the craze of international brands like Christian Dior, Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Salvatore Ferragamo reached another level. Sonam Kapoor, with her well-styled outfits throughout the film, came across as a true fashionista. Even the makeover for the simpleton character essayed by Amrita Puri showed that high fashion could be universal.

Tashan:

Kareena Kapoor Khan created a furore by achieving size-zero figure. She truly brought fashion to another level in the film. Add to that, stylist Aki Narula brought out his quirky best in the film. Right from chunky belts for Saif Ali Khan, versatile suspenders for Kareena and even the loud colours for Akshay Kumar and Anil Kapoor added to the ‘tashan’ element of the film.

Jab We Met:

Geet, Kareena Kapoor Khan’s bubbly and fun-loving character, was further enhanced by the styling. Patialas worn with long t-shirts trended for a really long time after the film. Accessories like jhumkhas, colourful scarfs and payals became hot favourites, too.

Main Hoon Na:

Shushmita Sen’s chiffon sarees were the talk of the town post this film and find mention even today. Manish Malhotra delivered hotness through those bright and vibrant sarees and different types of blouses. She made us go oooh with her every appearance in the film. Even the men’s styling for Shah Rukh Khan, pairing basic sweaters with pants to give him an older look, worked well on screen.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai:

The movie wrote a whole new chapter for college fashion. Kajol’s tomboy look, complete with the bob cut hair, hair bands and jumpsuits, made quite the impression. Even Rani Mukerji’s mini skirts were quite the rage. But the real show stealer was Shah Rukh Khan’s patent “COOL” chain, which was sported by all and sundry.

Dil Toh Pagal Hai:

Karisma Kapoor’s hot shorts, sports bras and t-shirt dresses were the highlights in the film. At the same time, Madhuri Dixit’s sheer kurtas and Indian accessories like the ghungroo bangle, became quite the trend.

Raja Hindustani:

Animal print blazer, lace dresses, bright colour sarees and suits by Manish Malhotra made Karisma Kapoor a style icon. She added to her chic personality through the sunglasses and the designer outfits.

Rangeela:

Urmila Matondkar made a statement in bustiers and frilled skirts. She not only looked sexy but still brought out the innocence of a young girl looking to become a big star.

Evening in Paris:

Sharmila Tagore was the first ever actress to wear a bikini on screen. With that blue swimsuit, she created an impact in changing the stereotypical look of women in the cinema.
