Former G4S boss fired over Olympics contract David Taylor-Smith in surprise exit at Aggreko

The former G4S executive fired over its bungled Olympics security contract will leave rival Aggreko in the next 12 months.

David Taylor-Smith is set for his second surprise departure in as many years after being beaten to the top job at the rental giant.

He joined Aggreko shortly after taking the fall for G4S’s handling of its London 2012 contract, when its failure to provide enough security guards saw the army drafted in at the last minute to plug the gaps.

It had widely been assumed he would get the top job at Aggreko after Rupert Soames, who had run it for a decade, stepped down.

But he was trumped by Chris Weston, who joined from British Gas.

Now Taylor-Smith is heading for the door after Weston announced a shake-up of the company that sees his job disappear.

Taylor-Smith was in charge of the African, Middle Eastern and European arm – a division that has been carved in two by the restructuring.

Aggreko shares rose 22p to 1488p.
