Coconut palm leaves and plants near the Government Guest House here were found mysteriously wilted from heat on Monday.
Some of the coconut palms on the compound of the light house on the cliff facing the sea, and trees and garden plants at the nearby Government Guest House were found scorched from some mysterious heat or chemical in the area.
The cause of the scorching of the plants was not immediately known to officials of the district administration.
The compound wall that divides the light house premises and the paved walkway on the cliff also showed signs of burning.
Additional District Magistrate O. Muhammad Aslam and Kannur Tahsildar V. Gopinath visited the spot to assess the cause of the burning signs.
When contacted, the ADM said the cause of the phenomena was yet to be identified, though it appeared to have been caused by some chemical.
He said the State Disaster Management Authority had been informed of it.
The exact cause of the scorching of trees would be identified by the authority officials after visiting the spot, he said.
