Debjani skull sent for reconstruction
KOLKATA: The Shakespeare Sarani police, on Monday, finally sent the human skull recovered from the Robinson Street address to forensic experts in Chandigarh for the facial superimposition process. The police are trying to confirm if the skeleton is indeed Debjani’s.
“We have been promised results in less than three weeks,” said an officer, adding the confirmation will be circumstantial identification.
The positive identification will be made only after DNA results come in, which may take six to eight weeks.
The investigating officers — sub-inspector Rajkumar Mishra and constable Mahitosh Mukherjee — sent photographs of Debjani hoping they might help complete the process.
Cops claimed that forensic facial reconstruction (or forensic facial approximation) , the process of recreating the face of an individual from their skeletal remains, is accepted in court.
The police are gearing up to meet Partha this week, along with his uncle Arun and some family acquaintances. Cops might also meet Arabindo’s solicitor.
“There are three specific enquiries we want to make. We have found that a Banglaore-based astrologer played a major role in Arabindo’s life. We would like to know if the same astrologer was in correspondence with Debjani too. Secondly, we will like to know if other family members were aware of the financial hardships the De family was going through. Finally, the initial opposition of the siblings to selling the house is missing in Partha’s second diary. We want to verify if he discussed property issues with the others,” said a source.
Police though are still hoping to recover a third diary from Partha where they said they might find entries from mid May till June 10.
