NAGPUR: The state has issued a government resolution (GR) to transfer land in Nagpur for the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT). TOI had reported on May 26 that the state has allotted 39.96 hectare land behind Sutgirni, off Wardha Road, about 20km from the city for the IIIT. The GR from revenue department now confirms the deal and lays down terms and conditions for transfer of the land.
The renewable lease will be for 30 years on a nominal charge of Rs1. IIIT Nagpur is being started on a public-private partnership (PPP) model. For the PPP model, state has already chosen two private partners and a MoU will be signed soon.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Nagpur’s ADCC Infocad will hold 7.5% stake each, state government will hold 35% and remaining 50% will be with the centre. ADCC Infocad is part of the Meghe group. The first batch of IIIT, likely to start in 2016-17, will have an intake capacity of 60 students.
With IIIT, Nagpur can now boast of multiple national-level institutes and further bolster its claim as an education hub. The prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM), National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) and National Law School (NLS) will also be coming up in city soon. The IIM is in fact at a more advanced stage of implementation, and will operate for the time being from the sprawling VNIT campus.
